We needed a sweet tooth snack, so we decide to stop by this Chinatown Bakery. It was pretty busy but they were fast and efficient. We each tried something different.
I really enjoyed the Custer coated bread. Many Mexican style Bakery have something very similar.
Fay Da Bakery, 1st time experiencing Chinese bakery. Lar variety and good prices, to be honest nothing new, after all sugar sweets are all the same. But worthy of a try while in Chinatown New York
If you see only Chinese people inside then you known you must enter. The pastries are delicious, cheap and low in sugar!! Something extremely rare to see in a city like NYC! Service is not the best though, but it is something cultural I think so do not take it personal :)
If you are matcha lover then this is your place. As a bonus, the building where it is placed is iconic
I got the Taro puff and pork puff pastry here. They were both really good. The taro puff had a nice gelatin texture and was flavorful. Coffee was just okay.
Quick service and relatively cheap for today’s economy. All variations of cold and hot beverages with a large selection of Chinese pastry and buns. Very limited seating, more of a grab and go bakery.
Everything is fresh due to high turnover.
This is a small place but have variety of options. Most of them look good but some don’t look fresh. The service was okay they weren’t mean but the ladies seem to have a low energy and were slow.
The pastries that we chose were good, we really liked the sesame balls and taro ball.
We didn’t like the matcha cheesecake, the texture we really liked but the flavor wasn’t good, it would be better if it were sweeter because it wasn’t sweet at all almost flavorless. And next time I would choose the normal one not the matcha.
We went to the bakery next to this one called Tai Pan just to compare and we definitely preferred that one over this one so if you are between these two definitely go to the Tai Pan one the quality is better, fresh, tastier, and the service is fast with good energy ladies.
4.2.23 Fa Da Bakery - CASH ONLY. This was the bakery that charged almost $2 for egg custard during the Pandemic, but prices have come back down. Based on my preference, their best baked goods would be the sweet bun and the sponge cake. Sometimes their egg custards are good, but other times they are a bit beat up. Overall, the baked goods are generally good.
This was a stop on a food tour in the area. Highly recommend stopping hear. The food is really good, fresh, and great tasting. Will return next time I'm in NYC.
